Amman, Jordan

On June 16th, 2011 fifty young people from around the world came together in Jordan, with the simple goal of building friendships across cultural and religious barriers. Students came from the U.S.A, Jordan, the U.K, Uganda, Australia, and Canada to attend the forum, and they spent time listening to each other’s stories, having an adventure together, visiting historical and religious sites, and discussing issues that matter to them. They were 5 intensive days that challenged and changed everyone involved.

Quotes from participants:

“When I return home I will volunteer at libraries, elementary schools, and host presentations at my university to share my amazing experiences here in Jordan.” International Participant

“If there is one thing that the forum really excels at, it is building relationships between people who would not otherwise have a chance to become friends.” International Participant

“As a result of the EWYF I would like to get engaged more with my own community, trying to raise a generation that holds its traditions but is educated and highly respective of everyone else so we can build relationships that are equal and just.” Jordanian Participant

“The highlights undoubtedly included the relationships I have built with my fellow forum-goers.  I also really enjoyed listening to the life stories.  They showed another, more personal side of my group members and really helped solidify our bonds with one another.”  International Participant

“As a result of the EWYF I would like to be an ambassador - an ambassador for cross-cultural bridge building.  An ambassador for the issues of Palestine.  An ambassador for people first, projects second.”  Jordanian Participant
